Our barrels are renewed...

Pagos de Negredo replaces 50 of its French oak barrels.

The new 50 barrels added to Pagos de Negredo winery replace the oldest and most worn-out ones, in order to transmit the wood’s features to the Joven Roble and Crianza wines more rapidly.

Oak barrels contain the wine during its maturation process. The barrels age has a positive influence on the wine’s aging process. New or little used barrels are able to transfer the beneficial properties of wood to the wine in a more efficient manner.

The wood’s origin is another important aspect to bear in mind. Due to its lower cost, American oak is the most common one, yet French oak is being increasingly used. Pagos de Negredo owns a 122-barrel depot, with a 225 liters capacity for each barrel.

An adequate aging requires keeping the barrels temperature within the range from 13 to 15ºC, avoiding abrupt changes between summer and winter seasons, whereas humidity shall be maintained at around 75%.

The criteria of the enologist will determine the required time for the wine in the barrel. The wood’s features will be transferred to the wine at a greater extent, the longer the aging takes.

Pagos de Negredo Joven Roble’s aging lasts 8 months in barrels, going up to 18 months for Crianza.
