During April, as temperature increases and goes above 8-10ºC, sprout commences.
Coming right after long winter, spring weather first heats up and awaken the plant. First its buds get swollen and from there on the first vineyards' leaves come up, which will go on to grow up to become vine shoots.
The entire grapevine is not sprout at once. Therefore differences between grapevines might be observed; some of them showing sprouts and others still to be born. This process usually starts at a later stage in the colder zones; however it is much more homogeneous.
Several factors have an influence in the sprout, namely ambient temperature -which turns out to be decisive as described beforehand-, height -this may create a difference in the temperature on similar zones, the trimming done, this is because the latter the vineyard is trimmed, the more difficult the bud break will be; the grapevines, the weakest ones sprout before to the strongest ones.
Furthermore eventual diseases affecting the grapevines might delay or damage the bud break.
